In a small beach community on the
shores of Lake Huron lay a dilapidated house in need of too much work to
consider renovating. The owner decided to demolish the structure to make way
for a new home and separate garage building. The new home was designed to keep
the 'cottage' feel on the exterior to blend in with the local architecture. In
contrast, a contemporary interior was designed to match the clients' modern
lifestyle.
Grand Bend, which is located on the shores of Lake Huron, about 40 minutes
north of London, is a town with a winter population of about 1,000 but explodes
to over 10,000 in the summer months. Young vacationers rent rooms and cottages
during this time and spend their days at the beach and nights at the local
nightclubs.

Exceeding the house size from previous
buildings on the lot meant many meetings with the planning authority to
successfully secure a building permit. Working closely with Owner, Contractor,
Engineers and Suppliers, enabled the clients vision of the space to be brought
through to fruition.
Custom designed cabinetry, exposed structural beams, custom front entry door
and lighting details all contributed to the satisfaction of the Owner. The
result was a metal roofed, wood batten exterior with an open-concept interior
which included solid maple floors, custom professional kitchen with stainless
steel appliances, exposed steel beams, and custom lighting all produced within
a tight budget.
